Christmas Reads with Some Sisterly Help: An Interview with Kate Kasch

Today’s interview is with an author who’s already inching her way to the top for holiday reads. Her book has made it to the top 150 holiday books on Amazon!

How did you come up with the idea of your Christmas themed book?
During the holiday season I think many people get nostalgic about what Christmas was like during their childhood and even more specifically, what their childhood home felt like at Christmas. The feeling of "home" means so much during the holiday season. What if that home was in shambles now? Or in jeopardy of being sold or destroyed? What lengths would you go to in order to save it? These thoughts are what led to the plot for Restoring Christmas

Could you give a short synopsis on the story for my readers?
The Christmas season is not all sugarplums and twinkle lights – at least not for Adrienne and Gretchen Harkins. Estranged after a family tragedy, the sisters have been living separate lives in New York City. That is until a mysterious red envelope shows up on both their doorsteps with news that forces them to reconnect and return to their hometown.

In order to save the once grand home they grew up in the sisters must work together to restore it and save it from foreclosure . . . and they only have five days to do it.
Permit problems, bursting pipes, falling trees, broken shingles, ex-boyfriends, current boyfriends – this is not your typical Christmas list.

However, help and support comes from the most unexpected of places as the community pitches in to help bring the Harkins’ home back to life by Christmas Eve. Restoring Christmas is an uplifting story about the true meaning of love and family, and how the magic of Christmas is in the coming together to give back.

What made you decide to do a Christmas themed book?
I had just released my debut mystery novel, Jane Street, and it was coming up on the holiday season. I realized how excited I was to read Christmas books and watch Christmas movies, and I thought, maybe I should write a Christmas romance? I started that November and was done by January!

What are some of your favorite Christmas traditions?
I pretty much love everything about Christmastime, so much so that my husband calls me "Christmas Kate." Every year since I can remember, my Mom has given us a tree ornament that represents what we did that year. Now as an adult, it is so fun to look back at all the ornaments and remember the many different milestones and accomplishments that occurred from year to year.

What’s next?
I am currently working on the third book in the Verity Townsend Mystery series, which follows a reluctant clairvoyant around notoriously haunted landmarks in New York City, as she tries to solve murders.  The first two books are Jane Street and The Dakota, which are available on Amazon.

What’s the best writing tip you’ve learned or been given you’d like to share?
Sit your behind in the chair and JUST WRITE.

What do you know now about writing and publishing you wish you had learned sooner?
Once the book is finished, the work is just beginning. It's a long, hard process, but I can't imagine doing anything else.

That’s all for today’s interview. If you’d like to learn more about Kate’s books and buy them, here are some links to get you started.
