How did you come up with the idea for your Christmas book?
I wanted to write a Christmas book set on Mackinac Island because of the wonderful setting of snow, old victorian houses and horse drawn sleighs. They have a Christmas tree in the middle of main street! It doesn't get any better of a setting than that.
Could you give a short synopsis on the book for my readers?
Christmas on Mackinac Island brings a flurry of festive activity for fudge shop owner Allie McMurphy—but also a body in a snowbank . . .
All Allie wants for Christmas is for renovations to be finished on the Historic McMurphy Hotel and Fudge Shop so she can move back home for the holidays. But for now she's staying in her friend Frances's apartment, busily baking batches of holiday fudge. After someone leaves a mysterious note on the door to meet up, the curious fudge maker goes to the rendezvous with her bichon poo, Mal—only to discover a woman facedown in a snowdrift. With her dying breath, the woman gasps, “Frances.” The police suspect she named her killer, but Allie knows that's impossible. She needs to wrap up this case before the trail runs cold—and give her friend the gift of freedom this Christmas season . . .
What are some of your favorite Christmas traditions?
I love making Christmas candy and cookies and decorating real Christmas trees- the smell of pine, the flash of colored lights and the twinkle of the tinsel are magic to me.
What’s next in writing for you?
There's another in the Candy-coated series coming out in early summer of 2022. So excited to keep the series going.
What’s the best writing tip you’ve learned or been given you’d like to share?
The best tip and the hardest tip is to keep writing. I wrote 17 books before I got published. It was all good practice.

Wow! That is determination. What do you know now about writing and publishing you wish you had learned sooner?
That you should set goals beyond - I want to get a book published. Do you only want to publish one book? Great- Do you want a career? set career goals.
Any final comments or writing tips?
Reading is fun, writing is fun. Don't let goals get in the way of the fun.
Are there any other books that you’d like to tell my readers about?
I've got a second Nancy Coco series set in a bee shop on the Oregon coast. They are fun reads and I love learning about bees. Start with "Death Bee Comes Her."
That does sound like a quirky and fun cozy mystery! If you'd like to learn more about Nancy's books, here's the link to her website: www.nancyjcoco.com
